How The Bougie Barkery was born & why:
Let me just start by saying this is where I will be raw, honest and personal. Anyone who knows Brandan and I — know we love all the animals! Our animals are our children! February 2023, The BB was never even a thought. Fast forward about two months later, I'm three weeks into recovering from an unwanted but very much needed hysterectomy and feeling a huge void in my life. The "finality" of that surgery hit me harder than I ever imagined it would. I kept wondering what I could do to get back to myself again and how to begin filling that "void feeling".

I don't typically watch or pay attention to TV but I just happened to catch an insurance commercial highlighting a dog bakery. I thought how cute it was & went about the day. I later found myself day dreaming — thinking about what it would be like to be surrounded by dogs and to see their excitement over some tasty treats... but, I had never baked a dog treat in my life.

After lots of research, videos and Pinterest, Chef Mom to the rescue! I quickly told her my wild idea and we got started in the kitchen. April 2023, The Bougie Barkery became official! It has been so fun and rewarding to know our furry friends are receiving the best of the best for their snack or training time. I'm ashamed to admit that my very own dogs had been receiving treats that are toxic with ingredients nobody can pronounce. Most store bought treats, especially the 'decent' ones on the shelf, can be so expensive and the majority are filled with junk. The BB only provides the freshest treats with limited ingredients we ALL can pronounce and even eat — at half the cost! (support local!!!)

Here's a little about me:
My name is Mariah Dickey, married to my husband Brandan of five years! We have two dogs and a cat, residing outside of Leipsic, OH on our 2.5 acre "farm". Buddy is a rambunctious 11 year old Chocolate Lab, Callie is our almost 7 year old rescued Louisiana Catahoula Leopard/Great Dane and Abigail is a Calico kitty, living her best life at 8 yrs old. They definitely keep us busy! In August 2023, we lost our oldest, beloved best friend, Paris at 14. She was my "first born" and losing her was absolutely soul crushing. I made it my mission to incorporate her memory throughout many areas of this business. After all, she was a huge fan of her mama's treats! The very last thing we were able to get her to eat the day of her passing was the "peanut butter pumpkin" treat. It only felt right to name that exclusive recipe after her.
In my "free time", I enjoy helping Brandan with projects around the farm, camping, cookouts with friends & family, taking trips and shopping. We will start a huge exterior home improvement project beginning in the spring, window installation in the next two weeks, and my sweet, sweet hubby has built me three work benches for my little in-home barkery space, coming SOON!
